I really like the atmosphere, but that was about it. It feels like going home to a little Texas town restaurant the way it is decorated. I went with my girlfriend and between the two of us we really didn't find anything very good. For the most part it was bland or not very well seasoned. Friendly staff and great service along with a good ambiance make it a place to try, but I wouldn't go back. Especially with me being worried about getting robbed as I went to the sketch restroom in the back. Maybe it was an off day or something, but it doesn't make sense it's been there as long as it has with this quality of food.

My family and I happened upon Victor's one night right before closing time. Considering that we were those annoying people who show up right as they start to close, I didn't expect a warm welcome. But the second we walked in the door, we were greeted like family by the owner and the lovely lady's serving up the home-cooked food. We all ordered a sampling of the sides and that night's main dishes. I think we had fried okra, mashed potatoes, some type of shrimp spaghetti thing, etc. To be honest, it's all a delicious blur. This isn't the best food I've ever had, but it sure is one of the best home-cooked meals I've had. The friendly cooks and the family-centric ambiance left a strong impression on me, and I can't wait to go back!

Great fried chicken. Love the small pepper sauce kick in the vegetables.

Favorite place to come to for breakfast/lunch. Southern food on point!! Always stopped here in the mornings, right before I went to school. Everyone here is very simple and sweet. No complaints! Just good food:)

Found this place by accident, but it is well worth a planned stop. Excellent "real food" and friendly staff.

Pretty darn good for lunch. The green beans gave me flash backs to my mom's cooking, which is awesome. Staff were extremely friendly, fun for us "out-of-towners" and showed us the ropes through the line. Expect home cooking done well.

A landmark in New Iberia associated with James Lee Burke's fictional law enforcement officer, Dave Robicheaux. You'd think it would be much a tourist trap and I suspect it gets its fair share of that crowd but Victor's is also very popular with the local residents. Always a good sign. Service is cafeteria style. There are two serving periods: breakfast and lunch with a one hour closure between the two. The place closes at 2pm. I had lunch here on my last day in the area. Fried shrimp, buttered carrots, creamed corn and cornbread. All very tasty if not all that healthy. I'll count this as my cheat meal for the week - I hope. One surprise: the iced tea was unsweetened. Not the norm in the south. Maybe along Bayou Teche. Guess I should have asked. This was a pleasant surprise for me since I don't care for sweetened tea. Would like to try the breakfast and if I'm ever again in the area certainly will. Recommended!

Came here for lunch with coworkers, where I tried frog legs for the first time. I also got fried shrimp and fettuccine alfredo. The food was mediocre, nothing memorable. Might just be me because both my friends seemed to really enjoy their food and they are both Louisiana natives. The atmosphere kind of reminded me of a high school cafeteria. Dat corn bread doe.....

Nothing screams local as much as victors. This place is pure louisana. Older ladies and their friends. Rough looking Rnecks. Normal business people types. And groups of many many happy return eaters. Food can't get more local than fried chicken, veal ,catfish. Spaghetti and meatballs. And sides galore. Carrots corn green beans mash potatoes. And sweet tea yum ! I had the fried chicken. It was single handedly the largest piece of fried chicken I have ever had ! And the coating was great and the meat was succulent and juicy delicious !! It was THE HIGHLIGHT of my lunch. I'm going back !

Five stars for small town friendly down home country cooking ambiance ! We are the only non-locals here, I think.

My father is a fan of author James Lee Burke and planned a Cajun adventure to see the sites from his books. Apparently the main character of the books eats lunch every day at Victor's Cafeteria in New Iberia, so it was one of the highlights of the trip. I had little to no expectations going in-- I was simply along for the ride. Turns out Victor's cranks out some damn, fine food. We got there at the very tail end of lunch, so they were out of a number of the sides. But they still had gumbo and fried chicken, so the staples were covered. Obviously there is an expectation for gumbo in Cajun country to be outstanding and Victor's exceeded my expectations. The fried chicken was nothing short of perfection. It was down home cooking at its finest. They had a little scene of a bait shop set up inside-- I guess it has something to do with the books. (I haven't read them, but dad made me take his picture, so it obviously meant something to him.) It was very, very spacious inside and looked like your typical small-town meat and three restaurant. Aside from the outstanding food, what really stood out was how incredibly nice everyone who worked there was. They were obviously getting ready to close, but they graciously let us in and there was nothing rushed about the meal at all. I don't currently have any plans to be back in New Iberia, but if/when I do return, Victor's will be on the agenda. And, next time I'll get there early. I would've loved to have seen it packed with locals like I know it must normally be. I can only imagine the stories that have been shared over those tables.

First, let's be clear on the type of restaurant this is and what it's not. It's a great place to see the local people getting together with friends and yes it's what some would call a greasy spoon. It's not fancy...they probably don't know what fancy means. It's not a Michelin star restaurant. BUT the food is good and the people are wonderful. I do not live in New Iberia but every day that I'm there for breakfast, I can be found at Victor's. The smothered potatoes are one of the best things I've ever eaten. Their bacon is exactly what I want from bacon...a little crispy and a little fatty. The pancakes are great as well as the french toast and did I mention the homemade biscuits yet? There are too many delicious things here and if you ever find yourself in New Iberia, I would say at the very least you need to stop in for a coffee and chat with the locals.

Victors is a local favorite & you can tell this by the groups of locals & working people who populate the place daily. It really makes it feel homey & inviting. James Burke fans will get their life as this was his hang out spot we're told. The best thing about this place however is the staff. The ladies that work their are to a person & to a fault kind, helpful & warm. I have never had a bad customer experience, ever. One of our go to spots for breakfast in New Iberia. As city folk who moved to a small town, it always surprises us how early breakfast is finished here. I mean you have to search for an egg after 10:00 AM. Their breakfast menu is my favorite. You walk up, cafeteria style & place your order. They make your eggs & pancakes to order. My husband is in the legion of the die hard smothered potatoes fan club. I'm not. They're not bad, they just don't move me. I am in love with their bacon. And the grits, and the biscuits and, and lol. You get it. You get your cup & can drink all the coffee you want. Seems like a small thing but I really like that they have the to go boxes next to the coffee. I like being able to pack my own haul of breakfast goodies without waiting for a box to be brought to me. If you want lunch my niece is a big fan of their fried pork chop. It's as big as your head. I dig their fried chicken and their sides are consistently seasoned well, hot & tasty. The menu changes but you really can't go wrong here.

First, I have to say I really wanted to like this place! It makes me sad to only give it 2 stars. We went in about 8:30-9:00 AM for breakfast. They were almost completely out of food. We got 2 hard biscuits, warm bacon, and old coffee. It wasn't good at all! And for the price (almost $18.00) it certainly wasn't worth it. On top of that the cashier really had no interest in even being there, let alone checking us out. I honestly don't understand what the fuss is about. Maybe dinner is better, but we won't go back to see.
